In 2013, the Japanese brand Infiniti, during the Detroit Auto Show, presented its new brainchild - the Q50 premium sedan, which became the company's first car to receive a new designation. In fact, the car is a continuation of the G-series sedan, well known and in great demand among Russian buyers.

It is for this reason that the Japanese had high hopes for their new product, which had to compete with such automotive "stars" as the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, and Lexus IS.

It is worth noting that the car coped with the expectations placed on it and was able to eat up a significant share of sales from competitors, which was facilitated by an aggressive appearance, rich equipment and lower cost.

Three years later, in January 2016, the Japanese presented an updated modification of the Infiniti Q50, the main changes of which concerned the technical component of the car. In addition, interior trim materials have been improved, and the list of standard and optional equipment has been expanded. The car, as before, has one of the best price / quality ratios, and its technical component is not inferior to more expensive and eminent German competitors.

Exterior of the updated Infiniti Q50

Even a quick glance at the new Infiniti Q50 is enough to notice that the car has not received any major exterior changes. The sedan has retained a deliberately aggressive and assertive appearance, made in the corporate style of the latest models of the company.

The front end of the Q50 retains the stylish false radiator grille, with a massive chrome logo in the center, while receiving a redesigned head optics. A muscular hood and a massive front bumper with a large air intake in the center and fog lights scattered around the edges remained in place.

The profile of the car completely repeats that of its predecessor: inflated wheel arches, large rims, stylish stampings along the side doors and a window sill line gracefully curved in the area of the rear windows. The rear of the car attracts the eye with two large exhaust pipes, a powerful bumper and original side lights, vaguely reminiscent of those in the BMW 5-series, which is not bad.

The overall characteristics of the novelty are:

  • Length - 4.783 m;
  • Width - 1.824 m;
  • Height - 1.443 m;
  • Wheelbase - 2.85 m.

As you already understood, the Infiniti Q50 is a large car that, despite its not modest dimensions, looks light, dynamic and sporty. Separately, the company emphasizes the drag coefficient reduced to 0.26, which had a positive effect on the economy and speed capabilities of the sedan.

It is curious that specifically for the PRC market, the Infiniti management released an elongated modification of the Q50, which received the prefix to the name "L". The version is distinguished by a 48 mm increased wheelbase and body length, which ultimately amount to 2.898 m and 4.852 m, respectively.

Customers can choose from 8 body color options, where Midnight Garnet and Black Odsidian deserve special attention. When painting the body, a special coating is used that can independently recover from minor mechanical damage.

Interior of the premium sedan Q50

When creating the interior, the designers and constructors were faced with the task of making a highly ergonomic, spacious, maximally comfortable and maximally equipped salon. Having traveled in the car for some time, we can safely say that they succeeded. The interior uses exclusively high quality materials (leather, soft plastic, wood, aluminum and fabric), which also have an original texture and give a pleasant tactile sensation.

In front of the driver there is a large three-spoke steering wheel with the ability to control the audio system and the on-board computer of the car, as well as a well-read instrument panel, which is represented by two large dials (tachometer / speedometer), between which there is an LCD display of the on-board computer.

The front panel architecture is made in the form of a rolling wave, which looks stylish and unusual. The central part of the dashboard is distinguished by vertically arranged air ducts and two touch-sensitive displays "In Touch" (the image of the navigation system is displayed on the upper screen, as well as the view from the rear-view camera, on the lower one - the multimedia controls).

The front seats have been developed in collaboration with NASA to provide maximum comfort and excellent lateral support.

The seats are equipped with heating and a large number of electrical adjustments, but ventilation is not even available as an option. The rear sofa is designed for three passengers, however, due to the massive central tunnel, only two passengers will feel really comfortable here.

The luggage compartment volume reaches 510 liters, while it can be almost doubled by folding the backs of the second row of seats (the ratio of 40 to 60 is maintained). In the luggage compartment underground there was a place only for the tool, there is no spare wheel, no stowaway, which is explained by the use of special "run-flat" tires.

In general, the interior of the novelty fully corresponds to the class of the car: high-quality finishing materials coexist with a large amount of electronics, which is designed to provide maximum comfort to the driver and passengers.

2016 Infiniti Q50 Specifications

In comparison with its predecessor, the 2016 Infiniti Q50 has got new turbocharged 3-liter petrol engines developing 300 and 405 hp, which are aggregated by a modern 7-level automatic transmission. Acceleration from 0 to 100 takes 5.4 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited by an "electronic stranglehold" at 250 km / h. Despite the great power, the car is capable of consuming a moderate 9.3 l / 100 km. Thanks to the new engines, the sedan is easily able to compete with the 5-series from BMW and the E-class from Mercedes.

In addition to two new power units, the car also offers engines well known from its predecessor:

  • 2-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 211 hp, consuming about 7 l / 100 km and capable of changing the first "hundred" in 7.3 seconds;
  • A hybrid engine, represented by a 3.5-liter petrol engine (302 hp) and an electric motor (67 hp). Fuel consumption in this case does not exceed 6.2 l / 100 km.

Regardless of the installed engine, the buyer can retrofit the sedan with an all-wheel drive system called "Intelligent All-Wheel Drive". Thanks to her, the car keeps the trajectory more confidently and feels much better when driving on ice, mud and grass.

The new Infiniti Q50 is built on the Nissan FM platform, which was also used in the G-series model. The front axle is represented by a double-lever suspension, and the rear axle is represented by a classic multi-link, which provide a high level of comfort and do not sin with "swinging" of the body. In the design of the sedan, modern grades of steel are widely used, as well as aluminum alloys, which have reduced the total weight of the car to 1640 kg.

The basic versions of the model are equipped with an electromechanical power steering, and the more advanced ones are equipped with proprietary adaptive control, the essence of which lies in the fact that the steering wheel and wheels of the front axle are not mechanically connected to each other - electronics are responsible for everything. However, if it breaks down, a mechanical connection arises between the steering wheel and the wheels, achieved thanks to an electromagnetic clutch.

Safety

As befits a premium car, the Infiniti Q50 is equipped with a host of advanced safety features that have allowed the sedan to achieve the highest score in crash tests. Among them:

  • 10 airbag;
  • Intelligent cruise control;
  • Distance Control Assist system, which is responsible for maintaining a safe distance to the car in front;
  • Automatic collision warning system;
  • Blind spot monitoring sensors;
  • Rear View Camera;
  • Lane safety control system;
  • ABS and Brake Assist systems, as well as the brake force distribution function;
  • Three-point belts and more.

Thanks to a large number of electronics, the presence of special deformable zones in a collision, as well as the use of ultra-strong grades of steel, the car reliably protects passengers from both frontal and side collisions.
