A breakdown of the water pump negatively affects the performance of the engine. Overheating of the engine entails serious consequences, up to overhaul. When the pump bearing is jammed on most front-wheel drive VAZ cars, the timing belt may break.

Why does the car's water pump break down

It is possible to determine that the pump is out of order by the increased noise of the engine, as well as by the backlash of the water pump drive pulley.

Another reason why the water mechanism should be urgently replaced is the leakage of coolant through its rubber seals and gaskets.

The most common reason why a water pump fails is that coolant seeps through the rubber seal and flushes the grease from the bearing, as a result of which its destruction begins. Incorrect installation of the pump can also lead to an early breakdown. Impeller destruction may occur if poor-quality coolants, water are used, or if the cooling system is not properly serviced. Among other things, the pump may become unusable due to a leaking heating radiator or oil cooler.

After making sure that your VAZ 2110 car really needs to replace the water pump, we proceed directly to the processes of dismantling and repair.

Procedure for removing and replacing the water pump:

1. Disconnect the "mass" on the battery - by removing the "-" terminal from the battery.

2. Drain the engine coolant through the lower radiator cock.

3. The piston of the first, in the order of operation, cylinder should be in the position of the top dead center.

4. Remove the belt tensioning roller.

5. Remove the camshaft drive pulley.

6. After unscrewing the four fastening bolts and a nut, remove the cover that covers the timing belt.

7. Using a screwdriver inserted into the slot, disconnect the water pump from the cylinder block.

8. Assess the condition of the dismantled pump, if necessary replace the rubber gasket. 9. If you decide to replace the pump on a VAZ 2110 car, then install a new one. It is recommended to install a new pump if the pump seal is broken.

10. If the pump roller has play, then the water mechanism will also have to be changed.

11. If the pump housing (1), impeller (2) or pulley with teeth (3) have mechanical damage, then the pump is also recommended to be replaced.

12. After checking the torque of the set screw on the water pump, tighten if necessary.

13. Install the pump, following the assembly order in reverse order. The number indicated on the body of the part must face up.

14. Having installed all the dismantled parts in place. Attention: the camshaft pulley is installed with the side that protrudes towards the engine of the machine.

15. The final step is to check the alignment of the timing marks and fill with new coolant.
